about

First single from our next album!

lyrics

They told me at roll call the teacher laughed

when he saw we were both absent for English class

We thought we’d had a special secret

That nobody else knew about

I kissed her for the first time on the beach that day

She stood on a sandcastle to reach my face

I could still feel her lips tingle in place

On my cheek when I fell asleep at night

But before graduation she dumped me for Davey

While I practiced all I’d read about the Stoics

And I wanted to be ten years older

I wanted to be so much stronger

That I could take the slaps on the cheek

And turn my face back again

I didn’t think much about her for 8 years

Until we bumped into each other at a Gabba bar

She sat on a barstool, one leg on the floor

She held on to the table while she laughed

As the glasses piled up around us

She told me about her ex and lost babies

She told me about her mother’s stage 4

And the holiday they had to cancel

And I wanted to take her in my arms

Hold her until all those things went away

And I wanted to be ten years older

I wanted to be so much stronger

That I could take the slaps on the cheek

And turn my face back again

She asked to share a ride but fell asleep on my shoulder

and I didn’t know where she lived so I put her on the couch

When I awoke about 5 to go to the toilet

she was sitting and crying

She said I could love her maybe if I ignored all the signs

And I held her for an hour and then held her hand

over coffee and five years later

I held her hand at the hospital

And we argued gently over names for boys

We made plans to tell people not to give us toys

And I wanted to be ten years older

I wanted to be so much stronger

That I could take the slaps on the cheek

And turn my face back again
